The coffee maker itself works great but the carafe is absolutely the worst I have ever had.You need to have a kitchen towel under it or you had better pour your coffee over the sink.I have resorted to using a pitcher to fill the water reservoir instead of the carafe to avoid water all over the place but what do you do once the coffee is made?Anyway--I would not recommend this coffee maker.Definitely a waste of $50.00!!!!

Michael Graves Design™ Automatic Drip Coffeemaker - Black (40304) Review

I purchased this coffeemaker at our local Target store a few weeks ago after reading the rave reviews that this coffeemaker received on this site.I will be returning it tomorrow.

First of all, and I doubt anyone would dispute this, the coffeemaker looks great.In fact, I would go so far as to say that it is absolutely beautiful!But there are major functional design flaws with this product.

First, and I haven't a clue why this happens, fresh coffee seems to find a path down the handle of the decanter handle, then drips on the counter.If we make about 10-12 cups of coffee there is a puddle of three or four tablespoons of coffee on the counter right below the decanter handle.Nothing I've tried stopped this problem.The best I could tell is the decanter is designed in such a way that coffee dripping into the decanter can follow a patch from the lid to a small space by the handle, then down the handle to drip on the counter.Maybe the decanter is defective, but it is a headache none-the-less.

The next problem is the bright blue light.I'm not sure how much electricity that thing consumes, but I'm sure it is not just a little bit.You can cook dinner by the light output of this thing.It will be neat at first, then you may find it annoying.

I'm not sure why they designed the lid system they way they did, but, as another reviewer mentioned, there will be condensation everywhere when you try to clean-up.Not only is the condensation a problem, there are several ridges and tight areas in the lid/water distribution system above the filter that are almost impossible to clean.It seems like the design would lead to the growth of mold and mildew.

Finally, as others have stated, it is really difficult to get a consistently good cup of coffee from this machine.No matter what I do it still comes out weak.Even the button for "strong" coffee doesn't solve this problem.With coffee prices the way they are I don't want a machine that will require 20-30 percent more ground coffee consumption when I could get the same quality with another machine.

I know a lot of customers have had a positive experience with this product, but I give it a thumbs down after a few weeks of daily use.

UPDATE:On May 22nd I attempted to return this coffee maker to the local Target in Corpus Christi, Texas but for some reason their receipt look-up system was not working properly.After waiting almost a half hour I got fed up and told them to keep the money and the coffeemaker.I was out about $40.00, but at that point I just wanted to get on with my life;this reflects life in Corpus Christi, not Target stores as a whole.

I went back to look at other coffeemakers and surprise, surprise!The Michael Graves Drip Coffeemaker had been redesigned! The coffeemaker sold here with this photo is NOT THE CURRENT MODEL OF THIS COFFEEMAKER!!!The new version (that may have corrected the coffee coming out the handle issue) is silver plastic and the decanter has a strip of "brushed" metal on the pouring handle.If your maker doesn't have that, you have an older version!!!

Based on my experience with the dripping handle, I'm not sure why they wouldn't offer a recall.Maybe the issue wasn't frequent or serious enough.Have they solved the issues with the weak coffee after using excessive amounts for a brew?Who knows?

Mr. Coffee SL13 Home Café Single Serve Coffee Maker, Black Review

I shopped around and compared features on a lot of models before I bought this one.The big differences for me were
1) You can use your own coffee grounds or loose tea instead of spendy pods
2) It's also compatible with pods from a variety of makers.
3) It's much cheaper than the big name pod machines
4) Unlike some of the other machines that use a lot of electricity to keep water constantly heated so it can dispense quickly, this only heats when you turn it on.

To use it, you fill the water reservoir, put the pod in the pod tray, and press the start button.You add water for each cup you make, which makes it easy to control how much coffee you get out of it and control the brew strength.There are 3 pod trays that you can use: one that accepts a single pod, one that accepts 2 pods in case you like it strong, are making a big mug (most pods have enough coffee for 4-6oz mug) or for 2 cups at a time, and a 3rd tray that uses your own grounds or loose tea leaves.My only complaint is that the coffee could be a little hotter, though adding hot water instead of cold to the reservoir helps.

We all know the problem coffee makers.They have mysterious water leaks, they don't drip into the carafe correctly, the filter basket overflows if it isn't perfectly in place.
Black and Decker (B&D) has designed a coffee maker that is inexpensive and simply eliminates those problems...
How I know:
I got this coffee maker for the office.We brew at least three 12-cup pots a day.We've done about 100 pots WITHOUT A SPILL OR LEAK.I highly recommend this machine.
What I know:
The "Perfect Pour Carafe" is great.B&D just gave it a wider spout!What a concept!You wouldn't think a handle makes a big difference, but when you're carrying 12-cups-worth of water or coffee, you will suddenly appreciate this excellent handle.This carafe even looks nice.
The filter basket does not swing out, nor must you hold it in one hand while you add the coffee.Swing-out baskets are the ones that overflow when you don't close them perfectly, and slide-out removable baskets leave only one hand for the scooping chores.This basket can be removed to dump the old grounds, but is then replaced in the machine so both hands are free.
That is because the lid opens up to expose the filter basket and the unobstructed, large water resevoir.No careful aiming or water splashing off of useless plastic grates when filling.There is a strange looking, hinged "shower head" that delivers the hot water to the filter basket.It is simple in design and works well.
The lid closes securely and pins down the removable filter basket to further eliminate human error in basket positioning.
Even the "sneak a cup" mechanism is simple and effective.It is simply a rubber stopper on a simple lever.The carafe can be placed in a "wrong" and possibly overflow-producing position, but if you place it with the handle straight out, you can't go wrong.
Water level is indicated externally on both sides of the machine.
Auto shut-off after two hours is essential in our office.It works and the coffee is kept quite hot during that time.
Easy to clean (buttons are water/coffee proof).

Hamilton Beach 48465 Brewstation Summit Ultra 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker Review

We bought this to replace our original Brewstation.It was still working, but it was hard to fill our travel mugs, so we upgraded to the newer model.

We love the convenience of push-button dispensing and the reservoir seems to keep the coffee hot without making it taste bitter or burnt.

There are several improvements over the original -

- smaller footprint
- brighter, easier to read display
- choice of keep-warm time
- choice of brew strength
- cleaning reminder
- more room for taller travel mugs

It makes great coffee and, when this one finally breaks we'll most likely replace it with another Brewstation model.

Edit - after using this for a number of months, I have to say that while everything that I said at first is true, it does tend to be messy.The water condenses on the lid and, even opening it hours after it turns off, runs all over the counter.The place where the coffee drips into the cup is close to the button that is pushed to release it and with some of our mugs the coffee tends to run behind the mug and down the coffee maker.

Mr. Coffee 8-Cup Thermal Programmable Coffeemaker Review

Ok, I have owned thermal coffee makers before, so I am used to how they work. If you have any issues with the lid, read the manual and do not complain about it. These reviews about how the lid is not easy to work and that the coffee spills all over is purely based on people who are lazy, and/or do not follow directions. If you simply close the lid all the way before you brew, NOTHING will spill and all of the coffee will go into the carafe. Also, if you need extremely hot coffee when you drink it, then preheat the carafe with hot water before you brew the coffee. If not, your coffee will still be pretty hot, but not scalding like normal warming plate coffee makers. By the way, warming plate coffee makers always overcook the coffee and make it stale 99% of the time. I prefer a bit less hot coffee where the taste is still in tact. The coffee tastes wonderful in this coffee maker, and is just as good as most of the $100 to $199 coffee makers. This thing is very compact, and not as tall as other thermal coffee makers. The brew process is slower than other coffee makers, but this is how it should be. You want the full flavor of the coffee, not just a hint of it with boiling water added. Not all things need to be so expedient. Waiting for a nice cup of brewed coffee in this machine is worth it. But if you cannot wait and need it right away, set the timer and wake up to hot coffee waiting for your drinking enjoyment.

So in a nutshell, if you have never owned a thermal coffee maker, read the directions. If you have problems with the lid or the temperature not being 2000 degrees Fahrenheit, don't buy it. However, if you are not a lazy person, am able to wait 5 minutes instead of 2, and know how to line up arrows on a lid......this coffee maker is for you!

I love this coffee maker, and it does an excellent job. The coffee is very robust and flavorful. The machine is very quiet, and works exactly as it is supposed to. The temperature of the coffee is very hot, and is still quite hot after adding a refrigerated creamer to it. I have no qualms with this machine, and the price is perfect for what you get. Please take this review for what it is worth, for I am a very educated coffee consumer. I have owned numerous coffee machines, and this is right up there with the best of them. No, I do not work for Mr. Coffee is case you were wondering :-)

Zojirushi EC-DAC50 Zutto 5-Cup Drip Coffeemaker Review

I had never heard of Zojirushi before but I was being very picky, holding out for a coffeemaker that makes 4-6 "cups" (aka two mugs,) uses a cone-bottom filter, and isn't black or white.This is the ONLY coffe maker - on Earth, apparently - that met all my criteria. (OK I still would have liked it better if it came in red, but the soft gray color is kind of classy!)And I have to say I'm really pleased with it.The design is simple and elegant and the removable water reservoir is a great convenience; I don't have to pull the whole coffee maker out from under the overhanging cabinets to get enough room to put the water in.

It also makes really good coffee, mainly because of the cone-bottom filter (I'll never go back to flat-bottom filters!)And the built in carbon filter makes more of a difference than I had expected.

OK some reviewers below were on about how it doesn't make coffee "hot enough" and I was like, bonus!I still don't understand how the rest of the human race can drink hot coffee straight from the pot without scalding their tongues.I was really looking forward to being able to drink coffee without having to put an ice cube in the cup first.(To be fair, I do drink it black.)I was so confident about this due to the "not hot enough" reviews that when I poured my first cup, I just took a great big sip - and scalded my tongue.Argh!!Maybe it's just that the warming plate doesn't keep coffee at boiling temperature, but it shouldn't: that would ruin the flavor of the coffee (and I've had a few cheap coffee makers that did scorch the coffee in a very short time.)

Anyway if you are the sole coffee drinker in your home and you like GOOD coffee, and you don't dig the flavor-limitations or wastefulness of those pod-based things, this is a perfect coffee-maker for you.(And if they ever make it in Red, I'll be the first in line!)
