Farberware FCM12SS 12-Cup Coffeemaker, Stainless/Black Review

Like everyone else, I found the absurdly tiny opening for the water is a royal pain, & certainly drags the rating for this way down. After setting it up, impressed with the features, & price, I couldn't even see where the water should go, and looked to the instructions, which weren't much help. I finally realized, that despite a huge lid, which is only for the filter, the opening for filling was a tiny, narrow slit towards the rear of the unit. This is way too small, and not only must you be a great aim, but it's quite awkward maneuvering the carafe to enable it to fully empty!

I truly cannot believe that someone, or ones, were paid to "design" this model! What were they thinking???

Oh, well, this is the third coffeemaker I've bought recently, the first two were even even worse, so I'm still undecided if I'll return this, or just live with having to be ultra-precise when filling it.....

Coffee Maker, 12Cup, Switch Black Review

This has to be one of the worst coffee makers that I have ever used.The problems that I found were also stated by other people as well.I wish that I could give it less than one star.The problems that I found are as follows:

1. Attempting to fill water storage area for first time turned into a mess when I was focused on filling it up while being half asleep.Found that water was spilling out of the back from holes put there in manufacturing process.Idiotic design.

2. Unit leaks water from somewhere onto counter.Mystery leak that others complained about as well.

3. Carafe is the worst that I have had the misfortune of dealing with.Try to pour a cup of coffee & end up leaking on the counter, floor, etc.Whoever designed the carafe should be flogged or at least ridiculed by coworkers.

4. Unit overall is a mess to deal with.Everything about it is messy.The stupid swivel water dispenser is more trouble than it is worth.DON'T waster your money on this garbage.Find another model or different brand.

I bought this via amazon for the price, stainless steel, and programable features.The upper handle clip broke in a month.West Bend had no replacement clip and put me on a waiting list.When there was coffee all over the counter this morning, I went right out and threw the whole thing, with still hot spilled coffee, right in the trash can.I went to the cellar, and got my old no feature procter silex (under a sawbuck at target) and made my morning coffee.Only those wishing personal agravation should throw away their hard eraned money on this landfill junk.

We all know the problem coffee makers.They have mysterious water leaks, they don't drip into the carafe correctly, the filter basket overflows if it isn't perfectly in place.
Black and Decker (B&D) has designed a coffee maker that is inexpensive and simply eliminates those problems...
How I know:
I got this coffee maker for the office.We brew at least three 12-cup pots a day.We've done about 100 pots WITHOUT A SPILL OR LEAK.I highly recommend this machine.
What I know:
The "Perfect Pour Carafe" is great.B&D just gave it a wider spout!What a concept!You wouldn't think a handle makes a big difference, but when you're carrying 12-cups-worth of water or coffee, you will suddenly appreciate this excellent handle.This carafe even looks nice.
The filter basket does not swing out, nor must you hold it in one hand while you add the coffee.Swing-out baskets are the ones that overflow when you don't close them perfectly, and slide-out removable baskets leave only one hand for the scooping chores.This basket can be removed to dump the old grounds, but is then replaced in the machine so both hands are free.
That is because the lid opens up to expose the filter basket and the unobstructed, large water resevoir.No careful aiming or water splashing off of useless plastic grates when filling.There is a strange looking, hinged "shower head" that delivers the hot water to the filter basket.It is simple in design and works well.
The lid closes securely and pins down the removable filter basket to further eliminate human error in basket positioning.
Even the "sneak a cup" mechanism is simple and effective.It is simply a rubber stopper on a simple lever.The carafe can be placed in a "wrong" and possibly overflow-producing position, but if you place it with the handle straight out, you can't go wrong.
Water level is indicated externally on both sides of the machine.
Auto shut-off after two hours is essential in our office.It works and the coffee is kept quite hot during that time.
Easy to clean (buttons are water/coffee proof).

Starbrand Products Gevalia 12-Cup Coffeemaker Review

Over 3 months ago in early January, 2009, I ordered a replacement carafe for the "free" coffee maker they sent me. The wrong one was sent. I called and was assured they would send me a return address label. After a month, I called again and was told the same thing. The third time I asked for a supervisor and was told it would be handled. The forth time, I threatened to put up a youtube video and promised results. This was Andy employee number 643113 on April 2. Still nothing in the mail. On April 20 I called again and was told that my credit card had been refunded, but to get the proper carafe I had to re-order and be charged. I said, "You have got to be kidding. After 3 months of hell?" I still have not heard from them, nor do I expect to. I am stuck with the wrong carafe cluttering my house. I sent this review to Gevalia and they simply repeated their new song: your account was refunded to get the correct carafe, re-order. Fat chance!

Yes, I used to have to buy those overpriced, German coffee makers--but not any more.When my latest $100 coffee maker started leaking from both the underside and from the little, unreadable, glass tube on the side, I started looking around for a replacement.

I settled on this Black and Decker model because it does everything the high-priced models do, but at a quarter of the price.After three weeks, the clock still keeps excellent time, the machine still comes on when I'm sound asleep so that I wake up to coffee ready to drink.The coffee tastes very good (c'mon, drip coffee is drip coffee--and I am STILL a coffee snob) and is certainly hot enough.The coffee maker is absolutely EASY to program; each button serves but one function.Aside from the fact that it doesn't LEAK, it seems I lose power here with disturbing regularity, so I like to be able to set the clock and the timer easily and quickly and feel assured that I'll have coffee when I wake up.

What I don't miss about the old coffee maker: leaks, erratic, confusingprogramming and multiple functions for one button, default ON for auto coffee making (and there's no way to turn it OFF), special little (hard to find) charcoal filter gizmo, adjustable temperature settings on the hot plate, and did I mention LEAKS.

What I miss about the old coffee maker: ability to change length of time the hot plate stays hot, "CALC" calcium warning.Both of which are easy to overcome.If I want two more hours of hot plate all I do is hit the "power" button; if I want to decalcify my machine, all I have to do is run a load of vinegar through on the solstices and equinoxes.

It is the size I wanted. Great design. Attractive and compact. I wanted a break resistant carafe (so my kids can do the dishes). The carafe is well built and is lightweight. I too was concerned that it is not a thermal insulated carafe but it turns out that is not needed since it sits on a "Keep Hot" warming plate. Though it is not listed on the outside of the box, it does indeed automatically shut off after 2 hours as described in the instructions.The clock and programmable timer are simple to set up. Best of all it brews hot delicious coffee!
