B&D 12 CUP COFFEEMAKER PRGRMBL. LCD DISPLAY Review

BandD 12 CUP COFFEEMAKER PRGRMBL. LCD DISPLAYPurchased to replace a Mr. Coffee that finally gave up the ghost.Had comparable features like auto brew timer and auto shut off. Will be replacing it soon with another Mr Coffee. When you pour the first and second cups you can expect to make a mess with the dribble carafe. It is difficult to fill the coffee maker with water without making another mess. I dont know why they added a splash bar across the fill area but it does make filling it with water a challenge. On the positive side the brew timer and suto shut off work well and it makes coffee as you would expect. The big down side is that useability is lacking.

West Bend 56710 Performance Series 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker Review

West Bend 56710 Performance Series 12-Cup Programmable CoffeemakerThis coffee maker just quit working 3 months after I received it. Could have been a possible fire hazard. It made very weak coffe when it did work. It's got lots of innovative features which drew me to this item. But I'd give it no stars. Don't wast your money.

Brew from 4 to 12 cups (60 ounces) of great-tasting coffee with this sleek-looking coffeemaker. Ideal for those in a hurry, the appliance brews 50-percent faster than the standard drip-brew coffeemaker, plus its drip-free pause-and-serve function allows for removing the carafe in the middle of the brewing cycle to pour a quick cup. Black & Decker CM5050 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker Review

Black and Decker CM5050 12-Cup Programmable CoffeemakerThe coffee maker itself works great but the carafe is absolutely the worst I have ever had.You need to have a kitchen towel under it or you had better pour your coffee over the sink.I have resorted to using a pitcher to fill the water reservoir instead of the carafe to avoid water all over the place but what do you do once the coffee is made?Anyway--I would not recommend this coffee maker.Definitely a waste of $50.00!!!!

Black & Decker DCM1350 VersaBrew Plus 12-Cup Programmable Coffee Maker, White Review

Black and Decker DCM1350 VersaBrew Plus 12-Cup Programmable Coffee Maker, WhiteI wanted a coffee making gizmo, and this model came with a few extras that I thought valuable. Of course, at this price, the VersaBrew Plus does not grind coffee beans, filter water, remove CO2 from the air, or slice bagels. So here is what I like about this particular coffee maker.

First, I like being able to lift the basket with the filter free and clear without having to contort my wrist at unnatural angles or pry the whole thing loose. This feature makes it easier both to add fresh grounds and to remove the sodden used grounds.

I like having the easy-to-use timer so that, oh joyous moment, the coffee is already brewing or brewed when I stagger into the kitchen.

The carafe pours easily and does not drip, and the heating element gets the coffee plenty hot so it's not necessary to do an auxiliary burn in the microwave (as I had been doing with my previous, dying coffee maker).

Another plus is that the carafe has stairstep hash marks to show how much extra water is needed to yield how many cups. (Rumors that the extra water rematerializes in the same dimesion where all socks that vanish in dryers go cannot be substantiated at this time.)

Also, the sneak-a-cup feature allows the first person to reach the coffee maker to steal a cup of coffee during the brewing process, thereby ensuring he or she gets the stronger stuff, which, after all, is the main reason for getting up first.

There are a couple of vices to note with the VersaBrew Plus.

Early on, for two mornings in a row, I fought my way past the cats only to find that there was no coffee in the carafe, only clear, warm water. The problem was that I had failed to pour any water into the heating reservoir the night before! Perhaps future models will either mock you with shrill bursts of laughter or feature a robotic siphoning device that handles the task should you put coffee in the basket, set the timer, and still forget to pour water into reservoir.

Second, as the last dregs of water are being sucked into the innards where the heating elements dwell, this thing sounds like an old steam locomotive with vicious intentions. It's rare to hear this much noise without some sort of accompanying motion to justify the sound. I've wondered if it might be possible to attach wheels and at least get the kitchen counter wiped off during these final wheezing paroxysms.

Finally, you can only move the time on the clock forward, so if you want to set the autobrew to start an hour earlier, you have to advance the time 23 hours instead of turning it back for one. That's pretty pathetic engineering.

But hey, I've got hot, fresh coffee every morning, and that is a good thing. Maybe the others reviewers have an earlier model or perhaps the coffee gods are displaying their wrath for reasons we cannot know. (But I do know that filling the coffee maker over the maximum water level might not be a good idea.)

PS: In constrast to the experiences of others, our Black & Decker DCM1350 VersaBrew Plus 12-Cup Programmable Coffee Maker is still on the job after three years of nearly daily use. Maybe it's because we throw a couple of scoops of decaf in with the mix.

Bosch 900-Watt 12-Cup Coffeemaker Review

Bosch 900-Watt 12-Cup CoffeemakerOver the last 8 years, I've purchased at least 5 coffee automatic drip coffee pots for my mom and for me.They have ranged from cheap to expensive. Expensive for me is in the $80 to $100 range. The last coffee pot I bought for my mom was a Melitta with the auto time set. While she loved the unit, it went to the coffee pot graveyard in just a little over a year when the heating unit burned out.A couple of my previous purchases were thermos-style units. My biggest complaints over all the coffee pots were (1) coffee not hot enough, (2) coffee didn't really taste that great, (3) pot not big enough, which happens most on thermos units, and (4) failure of the unit in too short a time, particularly for the more expensive units.
This time I decided to go for simple design, a larger container (12 cups instead of 10), a mid-range on price, and, hopefully, a good cup of coffee.Well, I got it this with the Bosch. It is very straightforward. It makes 12 cups; it has one button (on/off); it turns itself off after two hours; is easy to clean; was reasonably priced ($49.99 on Amazon in September of 2003, cheaper now); and lo and behold, it makes a good cup of coffee that comes out hot and stays hot without getting a burned taste.
The other reviewer says that it is cheaply made.I think that the plastic is as strong as any other pot I've purchased. The top lid, where the water is poured into, also "broke" on mine until I figured out that, instead of being broken, it had come apart as it is designed to do so that you can clean it better. The lid and surrounding edge of the coffee pot is a light grey plastic. It cleans up very easily and is less prone to stain than the ones that are all white. For the most part, I just run the pot under clear water and wipe the unit down with clear water to keep it clean.
The best part is that I'm very happy with the taste of the coffee.I don't use any special water, just our tap water which has run through a water softener. We have very, very hard water in Nevada.I'm using decafinated Folgers most of the time. The other good part is that the coffee comes out hot - hot enough for me to wait a couple of minutes before my first sip. Now, if it just lasts more than a year, I'll be extra happy with my purchase.

Black & Decker DCM100B 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker with Glass Carafe Review

Black and Decker DCM100B 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker with Glass CarafeAbout 10 months after I bought one of these, it started randomly shutting off during the brew cycle. The plastic rim around the hot plate cracked one day while brewing. Applica (the manufacturer) replaced it for a $7.50 fee under the warranty. Now, less than a month after getting the replacement, this one is doing the same thing, stopping in the middle of a brew cycle, and this morning the rim around the hot plate cracked while brewing a pot.Had a Braun for years before this piece of junk and it never gave me any trouble.

Product Description:
Brew up to 12 cups of great-tasting coffee at a time with this easy-to-use coffeemaker. The unit's programmable clock and timer make it possible to wake up to the smell of freshly brewed coffee--or to have a pot ready to serve with dessert, without having to get up from the table half way through dinner. At the end of the brewing cycle, the machine's nonstick keep-warm plate maintains an ideal serving temperature for two hours before automatically shutting off. The coffeemaker comes with a Duralife glass carafe that provides measuring marks up the side, a generous stay-cool handle, and a dripless pour spout for graceful serving. Removing the carafe from the warming plate midbrew pauses the flow of coffee and allows for pouring a quick cup--great for those in a hurry. Other highlights include a dishwasher-safe removable filter basket, an easy-view water window, a user-friendly control panel with a digital display, an auto-brew function, a power indicator light, and convenient cord storage. The coffeemaker measures approximately 12 by 9-2/5 by 13-2/3 inches and carries a two-year limited warranty.

Black & Decker DE790B 8-Cup Thermal Carafe Coffeemaker, Black with stainless carafe Review

Black and Decker DE790B 8-Cup Thermal Carafe Coffeemaker, Black with stainless carafeI think this is a great buy.I live alone. For me, the 4 cup machines were just too small and the 12 cup were too big.I also did not want a machine with a hot plate since they burn the coffee and make it taste bitter.I was happy with the $10 B&D single cup machine which I kept at my desk at work. This was the cheapest Carafe machine I could find ($29.99 at Target).

I am a bit of a coffee geek.I home roast my own coffee beans.Grind my beans right before I brew my coffee.I have not checked it with a thermometer, but this brews at a close to ideal temperature. I am using about 7-8 grams per cup and find it makes a good strong cup of coffee. The brew cycle is on the slow side, but for me that is good. The slower brew makes for a better extraction. I use a mesh basket and have not had a major problem with the grinds overflowing into the coffee. This has been a big issue with other machines I have owned. But by keeping the water coming at a decent speed, it seems OK with this machine.

The carafe does a fair job at keeping the coffee hot. After 4-5 hours and three mugs, the coffee is still at a good hot drinkable temperature. The outside of the carafe stays cool to the touch.Yes a hot plate machine would keep it hotter, but after an hour or two, the coffee would be burnt.

I will offer one tip for hotter coffee.Either rinse or or let the carafe sit for a few minutes with hot top tap water right before brewing. This will preheat the carafe a bit and make a few degrees difference in your coffee.

I know there are a lot of negative reviews on this I will try to address some of the points.

The Machine Flooded my Counter:
This is not the machines fault. You did not have the carafe properly seated in the machine. This can be a problem with any machine where you stop brewing to serve a cup.Cuisinart machines are even worse at this. But if you make sure the carafe is seated correctly, you will not have a problem. Also if you fill it above the 8 cup level, the carafe will overflow.

Hot Plate did not work:
Thermal Carafe machines generally do not have hotplates.Plus hot plates generally have auto shut off now.So after a couple of hours, your coffee will in addition to taste burnt, will cool quickly. This machinekeeps your coffee for 4-6 hours without tasting burnt.

Coffee tastes bitter or metallic:
Make sure to rinse after each use. Try cleaning it with sudsy water and the occasional soak with white vinegar and water.

Timer is tough to use:
Read the owners manual. It is not rocket science. It is like programing a digital alarm clock.

Yes there can be bad machines that do not brew at the right temp. But most of the bad reviews for this product are the result of user error and not due to a design defect.

For the money, this is a great buy in a thermal carafe drip Machine. There are no major flaws. It looks good on the counter, and keeps the coffee hot for a few hours. For $30-$40 I think this machine is a steal!!!
