HAMILTON BEACH BRANDS INC 40540 Aluminum Dispensing Coffee Urn -40 Cup Review

HAMILTON BEACH BRANDS INC 40540 Aluminum Dispensing Coffee Urn -40 CupWe purchased this unit from Bed Bath & Beyond as a replacement to the Hamilton Beach 40515 (HB) coffee urn (which was better in our opinion).

This unit looks pretty, and it holds >40 cups of water just as the HB did, but instead of being tall and slim, it is a short and fat unit.

The cup dispenser uses a pressure-release mechanism rather than a lift valve which at first glance seemed better because we can just put pressure on it with the coffee cup in hand rather than lifting a latch, but we were mistaken. The unit's pressure dispenser is placed at an angle, so it only dispenses full force when the bottom of the dispenser is pressed; when placing the coffee against the top of the unit, nothing comes out.

The problem with this is that the unit is so short, nothing larger than the small coffee cups will fit under the unit to allow it to dispense. This is a problem since most of our coffee cups are not the small ones.If you can fit the coffee cup under the dispenser to get it to dispense, you also have to be careful because unlike the spout-type dispensers, if you're not careful and there is not a sufficient amount of water in the unit, you'll knock it over and burn everyone around you including yourself when you reach to touch the burning hot unit with your bare hands to prevent it from falling and spilling.

Other than that, there is no way to see how much water is left in the unit, and the first day after using it with guests, it ran out of water and burned the bottom. Were there an indicator, we would have seen that we were running low on water and the bottom wouldn't have burned, possibly damaging the unit.Other units have either an indicator where you can see the water level, and others even have an automatic shut-off when the water level gets low and this unit has none of these features.

BrewStation Deluxe 12 Cup Coffeemaker Review

BrewStation Deluxe 12 Cup CoffeemakerI really like this machine.I like the design, the convenience and the coffee it makes, BUT...I bought one of these a few years ago and loved it - until it started leaking. There were several times that I'd start it brewing, come back 10 minutes later and find coffee all over the counter and floor. I cleaned the valve regularly and still had the problem.I bought a different machine after that one, but didn't like it nearly as well.So I'm taking a chance again...making sure to keep it clean to that nothing accumulates that could make the valve stick. It's only been about 6 weeks, but I haven't had any problems.

Hamilton Beach 48464 Brewstation Summit 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker Review

Hamilton Beach 48464 Brewstation Summit 12-Cup Programmable CoffeemakerPurchased to replace our Brewstation Deluxe, which we absolutely loved! The only reason we did not purchase another one exactly like our old one is because of the leaking problem.About 1x/year we would need to replace the 'carafe' portion of the coffeemaker. The Summit was the 3rd replacement model we tried. It is the only other model that has all of the features that the Deluxe had (programmable auto shut-off & timer, brewing cycle selection).I agree with the previous post that it is a bit more awkward to fill. But, the biggest problem I have with it is the coffee basket. It has about 50 holes in the bottom for the water/coffee to flow out of the basket. The result is a very weak-tasting coffee because it flows through so quickly.I can't understand why this model is made like this when other models have only one hole! There is no way to even use enough coffee to get a strong flavor, even when putting it on 'Bold' setting, which slows down the brewing cycle.I figured out how to solve this problem by purchasing a permanent filter basket to use inside the other basket, plus using a paper filter. This adds to the awkwardness of the whole process, but we are so hooked on this style of machine that are willing to put up with it. It is also messier than the Deluxe because of all of the condensation inside. When you lift the lid water runs down (but mostly back into the carafe), and when you take out the basket there is condensation all over it and it drips trying to get it to the trash or sink.I also just noticed one of the buttons to set the time is sticking.Well, maybe I should go back to the Deluxe...

Product Description:
Uniquely designed without a coffee pot, this 12-cup coffeemaker features, instead, an insulated tank that keeps coffee hot and fresh inside. To serve, simply depress the non-slip dispensing bar with any favorite mug for one-handed dispensing--no carafe means no pouring, no spills, and no hotplate that can sometimes scorch coffee or make it bitter. The appliance also provides a user-friendly push-button control panel. Choose from several brewing options including bold, regular, iced coffee, or small batch (1 to 4 cups). Even more, the unit's programmable clock and timer allow for brewing "wake-up" coffee, while its keep-warm mode can be programmed to automatically shut off immediately after brewing (for iced coffee) or in one, two, three, or four hours as desired. Other highlights include a large digital display with blue backlighting, a removable water tank for filling at the sink, a water-level indicator on both sides, and dishwasher-safe parts for quick cleanup. Housed in sleek black plastic with stainless-steel accents, the coffeemaker measures approximately 12 by 9 by 17 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.

Hamilton Beach 47665 BrewStation Plus 12-Cup Automatic Drip Coffeemaker Review

Hamilton Beach 47665 BrewStation Plus 12-Cup Automatic Drip CoffeemakerMy bride and I have owned probably a half-dozen or so coffeemakers during out 15-year marriage. We both love coffee in the morning, and we like to have it piping hot and ready when we rise. We've had some very good coffeemakers and owned a variety of brands and models. But all but two had one major Achilles' heel - a glass carafe. However hard we might try, those glass carafes always got broken. And when they got broken, the unanimous refrain from stores and manufacturers was: "Sorry, we don't offer that version anymore." So, it was a new coffeemaker or nothing.

We also owned one of those fancy units with an insulated carafe. Well, at least for the unit we bought, that cuts two ways. Yes, the coffee inside is insulated from the frigid winds of our kitchen. It is also effectively insulated from a warmer (which the unit did not have or, obviously, need). Now I can tell you that, with the possible exception of the most secret research bowels of NASA, there is no insulated carafe in the universe that is as effective as a warmer unless one consumes one's coffee very quickly.

Not only does this unit make great coffee, there is no carafe to break!! Or wash!! Thank you, thank you, thank you Hamilton Beach. We love it.

One caveat: when the user's manual tells you to regularly descale the unit, do so. Else the machine will get sulky and simply refuse to brew your coffee. It's probably unionized, who knows, but it does effectively sit down on the job. Now the manual has been fine tuned by an attorney and recommends descaling monthly. Given the levels of dissolved mineral in our water, we descale once every six months and all is fine.

Hamilton Beach 47214 12-Cup BrewStation, Black Review

Hamilton Beach 47214 12-Cup BrewStation, BlackI have had my BrewStation coffee maker for quite some time, and actually this is my second one.The first lasted almost a year before the power button quick working. We contacted Hamilton Beach, they sent us a free postage-paid return label along with a new machine. We did not even have to wait until they rec'd the old one before they would send the new one. Nice!

We have not had any problems with the new machine and we have had it for almost two years. No leaks, no fumbling with a glass pot, (which can cost more than the coffee makers they came with to replace when they break), no dribbling coffee down the side of your cup to the floor/counter.

For leak problems described in other reviews, make sure the rubber seal at the bottom of the carafe is intact and securely in place. It can become dislodged when cleaning.

I noticed what I thought was mold growing on the hinge of the lid, but it is just hard water deposits. You can lift the lid and press it back just enough to pop the plastic bar (hinge) out.Wipe the bar down on both sides with a dish cloth then easily pop it back into place.Do this during routine cleaning to eliminate the deposits from accummulating.

Hamilton Beach 42115 3-in-1 Hot-Beverage Center, Black Review

Hamilton Beach 42115 3-in-1 Hot-Beverage Center, BlackThis is replacing a 4 cup Melitta coffeemaker (couldn't find a replacement carafe that would fit the brewer, which sat atop the pot).
This appealed to me in that this product has the following good features:

1) no pot/carafe to crack or clean
2) no waste (since you didn't have to brew 1-3 cups to get 1 decent sized mug + waste)
3) no hot plate/pot to turn off - nothing to worry about if you started a brew and then were unexpectedly called away or forgot about it
4) no paper filters required (but see below)
5) looks interesting - doesn't look like a coffee maker, takes up less space on counter, easier to keep clean.

I read some reviews - good and bad- and decided to get it anyway. AM SO GLAD I DID- I REALLY LIKE THIS THING!

Reasons:1)-4) above, plus:
5) water resevoir + filter assembly is dishwasher safe (top rack)
6) capability of using pods (I wasn't about to buy an expensive 'pod-processor', so this is a very nice 'perk' - pun intended! ;o)

Very easy- load it up, walk away, come back to beverage.Lovely!

Some tips to head off any/all problems-

1) Read the manual.Hey, things happen, but really - use COLD WATER ONLY.

2) If brewing multiple cups- WAIT AT LEAST 30 SECS after light goes off before starting another brew.To be safe, I wait a full minute- have not had any problems.

3) I could see the potential for 'filter fouling', so I buy generic #4 Melitta filters (huge pack can be bought for <$2/pk) (& since #1s are almost impossible to find/expensive).I cut them down to fit the little filter basket, and I can go back n forth from tea to coffee to hot cocoa to soup without carryover effects (dump out coffee & rinse assembly after coffee).
4) Be careful with pushing down on plastic parts- again- read the manual. You might have to double-check to be sure that the water resevoir is pushed in all the way some times (it happened to me once).Use the handle/flap assembly to open/close the filter assembly - this is covered in the manual.

I agree- it would be nice if this were made more robustly (less plastic), and I do worry about the ability to get a replacement brew basket if need be. But I paid less than $20 for this (at Meijer), so can't complain.

Hamilton Beach 48274 Brew Station 6-Cup Coffeemaker, Black Review

Hamilton Beach 48274 Brew Station 6-Cup Coffeemaker, BlackOk, in my family, I am the only one who drinks coffee. My wife does not. This coffee maker is perfect for myself. It allows me two full 14oz mugs of coffee without wasting an entire pot on just myself.

Most 10-12 cup coffee makers don't do a good job of making smaller amounts of coffee for those of us that may have a single coffee drinker family. The coffee is either lukewarm or not strong enough when trying to make a smaller batch. My wife doesn't like coffee so I am stuck either getting an expensive single K-cup style coffee maker, pod maker or a 4-cup drip brewer. However, thanks to the Hamilton Beach 48274 Brew Station 6-Cup Coffeemaker, I can end my search for the perfect solution.

The Brew Station makes an excellent, piping hot cup of coffee. It is said to be a 6-cup brewer and that may be the case for a regular 5oz mug.But for me, I use a 14oz mug and this brewer makes exactly two full mugs of coffee with none to spare. The coffee maker does an excellent job of keeping the coffee hot until needed, without continuously cooking the coffee or burning it.The programming is easy to use, and the overall design is simple enough once you get used to filling the water reservoir.I immediately ran three brewing cycles of just water once I opened the box and then made my first batch. There was no plastic taste or any other chemical taste to my coffee.

Other reviews have stated their Brew Station leaked, but mine does not. There is a little plastic arm that swings out over the coffee ground basket which dispenses the water.I could see that if this arm was not swung out over the basket, it might leak out the back. Also, the actual dispensing mechanism might be another place for leakage if there are coffee grounds or some object stuck between the valve and gasket so be sure to make sure this area has no coffee grounds in it prior to using.Again, I have not had this problem and don't anticipate that I will as I am really careful to not get coffee grounds in the coffee reservoir and always make sure the arm is over the brewing basket.

Others have mentioned that 8-12 cup filters don't fit this maker. The manual does not state which size filter to use either.I have found that 4-cup filters are a perfect fit for this maker and most likely what Hamilton Beach intended.Walmart sells 200 of these filters for around one dollar. If they aren't on the coffee aisle at Walmart, then check where the coffee makers themselves are sold as Walmart tends to sell things in multiple locations inside a store.

Overall, I am very pleased with this maker especially considering the price.

Hamilton Beach 48465 Brewstation Summit Ultra 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker Review

Hamilton Beach 48465 Brewstation Summit Ultra 12-Cup Programmable CoffeemakerWe bought this to replace our original Brewstation. It was still working, but it was hard to fill our travel mugs, so we upgraded to the newer model.

We love the convenience of push-button dispensing and the reservoir seems to keep the coffee hot without making it taste bitter or burnt.

There are several improvements over the original -

- smaller footprint
- brighter, easier to read display
- choice of keep-warm time
- choice of brew strength
- cleaning reminder
- more room for taller travel mugs

It makes great coffee and, when this one finally breaks we'll most likely replace it with another Brewstation model.

Edit - after using this for a number of months, I have to say that while everything that I said at first is true, it does tend to be messy. The water condenses on the lid and, even opening it hours after it turns off, runs all over the counter. The place where the coffee drips into the cup is close to the button that is pushed to release it and with some of our mugs the coffee tends to run behind the mug and down the coffee maker.
