Coffee Maker, 4 Cup White Review

I am a modest coffee drinker. I drink 4 cups a day, and I require little of a coffeemaker other than an on/off button. My last perfectly servicable Mr. Coffee 4-cup machine bit the dust, so I replaced it with this one, because at least I could re-use the carafe.
Well, the internal design guys have been at the guts of this one. First, you can no longer remove, rinse and/or wipe down the internal chamber condensation from your last pot. You have to insert a papertowel into the new internal resevoir, scraping your hand on some internal parts that probably weren't meant to be messed with. They have likewise redesigned the basket, and it barely fits the standard coffee filters anymore, without crinkling and leaving grounds in your pot, and, hey, the internal water resevoir, where it has no business backwashing anyway. And god forbid you should try to make 5 cups in your 4-cup machine, for which there is plenty of room in the carafe, and in the resevoir, and which works well in many other 4-cup machines. My coffee maker lives on top of my microwave on a little shelf, by the toaster oven, because I have no counterspace for it. I have to lift it out some 10 inches, fill it up, insert the basket, and put it back on the microwave to process. I have mastered the art of moving a fully water loaded machine the little bit required. This one sloshes water everywhere. From the top of the machine? No! There's an engineered HOLE in the back of the reservoir to keep you from overfilling the chamber that last little bit. Water fountains everywhere from the center back part of the machine. I suppose I could put a piece of duct tape over it, but who wants duct tape in their coffee. Good God.

I will be replacing my machine shortly, then gleefully smashing my carafes on the driveway.

Unpackaged the maker and craving a cup of coffee, I cleaned the cups and the filters, installed the carbon filter*, and filled reservoir for 2 x 12 oz cups (full capacity) to run the machine twice as recommended for all new coffee makers.First clear run worked fine, and I was feeling satisfied with my purchase.I decided to skip a second 'clear' run and go ahead with the grinds.Set up machine, flipped the switch on top, and at the base... Nothing.Unplugged and let sit for 30 minutes.Tried again... not a perk could be heard.The indicator light was on but the machine ceased to brew.I never even got a taste. I could have had a bit of bad luck and received a defective machine (was sold as new, not refurb BTW).

Even if I could find a way to get a replacement I wouldn't go for this one again, DOA aside,the unit is flimsy, there are no safety measures to keep yourself from being scolded if the water percs while the lid is ajar.From what I could tell there was no auto shutoff of the heating element - little scary.Finally, the pieces - all - of them don't really sit well with each other, the mugs are clunky and difficult to position without fidgeting with it, the lid on the reservoir/filter compartment has no latch or mechanism to secure it closed.Many of the plastic parts are slightly warped and don't quite fit nicely.

Overall I would say skip this machine, it is a Chinese, OEM branded, $[...]coffee maker with a brand name meant to sound sophisticated, elegant, quality, etc.Not so.The manufacturer is unheard of and there is no particular place to purchase replacement parts or request repair.

*Water quality, which the manufacturer plays up a bit much, touting its 'filtration system' is merely another marketing gimmick to help this poorly made unit sell. The filtration as it is,a small carbon pellet that is standard with many if not most machines today - it wont make your water or coffee taste any better.
UPDATE:Many months after purchasing this product and making every attempt to contact the Maker/MFG./Distributor I have yet to receive a reply.I urge you to go to their website and find their 800 number and email if you are considering this product.As far as I can tell, no one actually works for or cares about this company/brand as you will not get an answer, return call from voicemail, or a reply to email inquiry.Luckily, I was credited by the seller for the full purchase price.The seller did not want the item back!Ought to tell you something about this item.So, I have it all boxed up ready to be...?

Very conveniently a 16 oz Aquafina water is perfect to fill the pot.It brews great very hot strong coffee and I like that the stainless is more durable than glass.It's easy to clean and it has the 1 hr auto shutoff feature my work requires.It also has a heavy duty power cord and is just made very well.

Hamilton Beach 42115 3-in-1 Hot-Beverage Center, Black Review

This is replacing a 4 cup Melitta coffeemaker (couldn't find a replacement carafe that would fit the brewer, which sat atop the pot).
This appealed to me in that this product has the following good features:

1) no pot/carafe to crack or clean
2) no waste (since you didn't have to brew 1-3 cups to get 1 decent sized mug + waste)
3) no hot plate/pot to turn off - nothing to worry about if you started a brew and then were unexpectedly called away or forgot about it
4) no paper filters required (but see below)
5) looks interesting - doesn't look like a coffee maker, takes up less space on counter, easier to keep clean.

I read some reviews - good and bad- and decided to get it anyway. AM SO GLAD I DID- I REALLY LIKE THIS THING!

Reasons:1)-4) above, plus:
5) water resevoir + filter assembly is dishwasher safe (top rack)
6) capability of using pods (I wasn't about to buy an expensive 'pod-processor', so this is a very nice 'perk' - pun intended! ;o)

Very easy- load it up, walk away, come back to beverage.Lovely!

Some tips to head off any/all problems-

1) Read the manual.Hey, things happen, but really - use COLD WATER ONLY.

2) If brewing multiple cups- WAIT AT LEAST 30 SECS after light goes off before starting another brew.To be safe, I wait a full minute- have not had any problems.

3) I could see the potential for 'filter fouling', so I buy generic #4 Melitta filters (huge pack can be bought for <$2/pk) (& since #1s are almost impossible to find/expensive).I cut them down to fit the little filter basket, and I can go back n forth from tea to coffee to hot cocoa to soup without carryover effects (dump out coffee & rinse assembly after coffee).
4) Be careful with pushing down on plastic parts- again- read the manual. You might have to double-check to be sure that the water resevoir is pushed in all the way some times (it happened to me once).Use the handle/flap assembly to open/close the filter assembly - this is covered in the manual.

I agree- it would be nice if this were made more robustly (less plastic), and I do worry about the ability to get a replacement brew basket if need be. But I paid less than $20 for this (at Meijer), so can't complain.

Do you live alone? Are you the only coffee drinker in the house? Do large portions of your coffee go down the drain? Then this is perfect. I gave it a 4 because I really do not like the mug, but that is another thing, you can use any mug. Measure the water with the alternate mug, pour it in, put the coffee in the little wire basket and flip it on. You have coffee in about 5 minutes.
