Flavia J10NBK Fusion Drinks Station Review

I won't attempt to compare this machine to the other brands out there, but I CAN attest to the fact that Flavia is darn good coffee.

My office has the great big Flavia machine that automatically disposes of the used packs, and is plumbed for water.Right beside that machine we have a coffee maker that is only brewed with Starbucks.For the past three years, the Flavia machine is ALWAYS more popular.It's just fun to use also.

For anyone considering the middle of the line SB100 machine, keep in mind that it does NOT handle multiple-pack brews.That means no creamy toppings.

This machine comes with the Drinks Medley for $20 extra.I couldn't find the contents of that Medley anywhere, so here it is:

You also get a Travel Mug (a standard-issue tall mug with no handles.Slider on top is not spring loaded.You could pick one up at the store for about $7).

So, you get 34 brew packs worth about 45 cents each, plus the syrups and sprinkles (about $2 more), and the travel mug (worth about $7).That's about a $24 value for $20.The Medley is definitely NOT worth the normal price of $30.

The Flavia does have one BIG downside (hence 4 stars) - there are very few places that carry the brew packs.Worse, most of the on-line stores can only sell to certain states per their agreement with Flavia.So, you may very well be forced to buy your refills from Flavia.net.A 'rail' of 20 coffee or tea packs runs about $8.50-9.50.The creamy topping is 25 cents a pack.Add shipping and tax, and that creamy cappuccino with sprinkles costs over a buck for a 7oz cup.The going rate at E-bay is 40 cents a pack before shipping.Once Amazon starts selling Flavia coffees, this machine will get 5 stars.

UPDATE:
I've made about a dozen cups of coffee with this machine.The adjustable height of the dispenser is really handy; if you lower till it touches the rim of your cup, there will be no splashing.You really should dab a paper towel underneath the dispenser after you use it (especially if you just used creamy topping or choco).I can see how the machine can get yucky if you don't do this.The machine IS surprisingly noisy, but only for about 15 seconds per cup.Flavia makes great brew packs - they do not leak when you remove the used ones.Of course, if you squeeze a used coffee pack, it will leak.

The medley kit comes with a travel cup, yet the cup is too tall for the machine as pictured.You need to remove the overflow tray to make it fit.The travel cup holds 14 ounces (two brew packs worth) comfortably.

If you are going to be buying disposable cups for this machine, I recommend getting 8 ounce and possibly 16 ounce cups.This way, you can keep the volume setting on the machine at 7 ounces, using one or two coffee packs, respectively.If you use your own coffee cups, you're going to have to constantly be changing the volume setting for different cups.We bought cheap styrofoam cups from our local warehouse store and keep a stack (with lids) nearby.

BUNN BTX-B(D) ThermoFresh High Altitude 10-Cup Home Thermal Carafe Coffee Brewer, Black Review

We bought this particular model because we want our coffee to brew fast and wanted an insulated pot to avoid coffee cooking or forgetting to turn off the burner.It would be an exact fit for our requirements if not for a few quality flaws.First, as with another Bunn we recently owned, the water releases into the grounds in such a way that they splash up the side and a little bit out of the grounds basket - creating a mess you don't have with other brands.(We've tried different methods to prevent this but they don't work consistently.) Also, where the top black piece of the pot assembly is supposed to be sealed with the chrome portion, there is not a tight seal so when you pour a cup of coffee it dribbles out of the seal which makes a mess.(No we haven't dropped it or put it in the dishwasher - this started within the first few days of use.) Summary: Was willing to pay the high price to get the features and company name behind this product initially but the quality of the build is disappointing.Thought the quality problem with my first Bunn purchase was perhaps a one-time thing.Considering this second quality problem with a Bunn purchase, I will not be buying any future products from them.

Bunn VP17-2 BLK Pourover Coffee Brewer with 2 Warmers Review

This, along with my commercial Bunn Coffee Grinder, is my favorite indulgence. I have owned a Bunn designed for home use for 20 years and I finally took the plunge and bought this one. Bunn is the industry standard and for good reason. Every aspect of this brewer is quality.

Bunns work differently than most home drip machines in that they have a water reservoir that holds about 2 1/2 "loads" of water at any one time that is constantly kept at brewing temperature - the machine is "on" all the time. This is what allows you to brew a pot of coffee instantly. No waiting for the water to heat up. The switches on the front are for the warming plates, which I don't use. I prefer to transfer the hot brewed coffee to an air pot so it doesn't get bitter but still stays hot. This particular model doesn't need to be plumbed. You just pour the correct amount of water from the supplied pitcher into the top of the machine - hence the name "Pour-o-matic". It makes 12 cups of perfectly brewed coffee in a couple of minutes. Making morning coffee is such a pleasure now. I may be a rotten cook, but I can serve up a fine cup of coffee with my Bunn!

The stainless steel case is thick, sturdy and designed for easy cleaning. I live in a hard water area where mineral deposits clog up coffee brewers overnight but this is designed to make it easy to keep it running freely. Even the spray head is stainless and is easy to unscrew and rinse out daily. That also gives you access to the water delivery tubing which you just ream out with the supplied flexible spring rod (called the de-liming tool). It's very quiet when heating up the water - a big thing if you've ever had a different brand of commercial brewer.

If you can't live without your brewed coffee and you can afford this pricey indulgence, you'll never regret buying a Bunn.

I have been trying to get that perfect cup of coffee at home for ever. Now I know how to do it BUY A BUNN VPR/POUROVER COFFEE BREWER and begin enjoying virtually perfect coffee everytime. I don't claim to understand why, but this machine just makes a better cup of coffee than any other machine I've ever tried. (and I've tried a lot!) I'm a coffee lover but there was always something about the coffee brewed at home that was'nt quite right.NO MORE.This thing makes 12 cups of outstanding coffee in just about 3 minutes. Of course the right beans and grinding just before brewing is important, but this machine makes a difference. highly reccommended. I like those BUNNS!

Bunn NHB Professional Home Brewer, Black Review

I'm fond of some of the 'thicker' smokier coffees.Mocha Matari (while difficult to find) is among my favorites.Normal drip pots (including some expensive ones) don't provide the complexity of flavor I enjoy.(I suspect the water is too hot, the brewing cycle is too long, and the coffee is over-extracted.)

One of my daughters is a coffee fanatic.She brought me some Ethopian coffee that she insisted I just had to try.So I ground it up, brewed it with the Bunn, and tasted it.The coffee was great.But my daughter's comments were revealing."This tastes so good at home, but so much better here.My birthday is coming up -- I know what I want for a gift."

And that's basically what it comes down to.Even supermarket "100% Columbian" coffee tastes pretty good, better than it has any right to taste.

There are a couple of down-sides, though.It keeps the water hot all the time, and that means that the water evaporates over time.Get accustomed to brewing a pot a day, and if you brew two pots in a row, you'll get more water than you expect and the coffee will be thin.Go away for the weekend, and you'll have less water than you expected when you return.Also, the brewing does not over-extract the coffee compared to most other brewing machines, and that means that to get the strength of coffee you want, you'll probably want to use about 20% more coffee than what you're accustomed to.Also, the quick extraction seems to brew the coffee with less caffeine, so if coffee is something you use to get started after not enough sleep, and not something to savor, this may not be for you.

But what you get in return is something that doesn't just open your eyes, but that tastes better than you probably thought was possible.For my money, there is no second choice.

Also -- stock up on the Bunn filter papers.They're deeper, and that's necessary to keep grounds from overflowing.The quick brew cycle means that there's more water in with the coffee than with typical coffee brewers, and standard filters can't contain all that water.

Bunn VLPF Professional Automatic Coffee Brewer with 2 Warmers Review

Our office finally pitched in and purchased this coffee maker, after years of going through leaky household-type coffee makers. We used to run two coffee makers all day long - probably eight pots per day each. Our new Bunn is faster and can keep up with our demand. Be aware that this Bunn VLPF does NOT include the two decanters pictured. Only when the box arrived, did the outside of the box mention "decanters not included." We've been using it for over a week now and so-far-so-good. I also purchased the extra 3-year warranty, just in case.

The Bunn Coffee Brewer makes great coffee, but there is design feature that may appeal to many. The water pours into the front of the brewer.
With most counter top coffee makers, the water must be poured into the back of the machine. This means the coffee maker must be pulled away from the overhead cabinets in order to access the water reservoir.With the Bunn, I never have to move the machine and I can keep it pushed back on the counter top.
The brewing time is so short that you don't need a programmable timer. From the time I pour the water in until I am enjoying my first cup is only a little over 3 minutes.
I should have bought this a long time ago.
