Cuisinart DGB-300 Automatic Grind and Brew 10-Cup Coffeemaker Review

Cuisinart DGB-300 Automatic Grind and Brew 10-Cup CoffeemakerFrankly, I'm a little surprised at the wide range of reviews here for this coffeemaker.
Yes, the coffeemaker does have to be cleaned after every brewing. No, it doesn't make bad coffee. No, you can't just dump coffee beans or ground coffee into the coffeemaker and make good coffee automatically.
The Coffee Bar, as Cuisinart likes to call it, does have several internal parts which must all be in place before you can brew coffee. You can use ground coffee, but you're defeating the purpose of the Coffee Bar by doing so.The grinder compartment can hold enough beans to make 10 strong 6-oz cups of coffee which is what "10-cup" usually means with appliances.I like my coffee very strong and I've been able to load more than enough beans into the coffeemaker to get the strength of coffee I want.
Between the grinder and the attached drain basket is an attached screen through which the ground beans goes through and an inserted gold basket filter which must be in place in order to make coffee. On top of all of this is a cover which fits over the basket into which hot water is pumped up over the grounds and then drips down into your fresh grounds.
On this cover, there is a dial setting which you must set each and ever time depending on the amount (and what I've discovered -- strength) of the coffee you want to have. Finally, this entire assembly is covered by a lid attached to the rear of the coffeemaker and latches in front.
The entire internal assembly MUST be cleaned after each and every brewing. So, yes, if you make multiple pots, you need to clean it each time.(However, is this any different than any other coffee appliance?)
There are additional settings on the front of the coffeemaker that also affect the quality of the coffee; so, basically, the coffeemaker is NOT intuitive and you have to read the instruction manual before you start brewing coffee with this appliance.
All of that said, this coffeemaker makes EXCELLENT coffee.I own two of them, because I originally purchased the version in white, because it was all that was available. When the version in black became available, I bought a second one. Both are still in excellent working condition and I haven't had any problem with either.
The Cuisinart Coffee Bar is a little pricey, but it does make great coffee and I heartily recommend it.

Capresso 465.05 CoffeeTeam TS 10-Cup Digital Coffeemaker with Conical Burr Grinder and Thermal Carafe Review

Capresso 465.05 CoffeeTeam TS 10-Cup Digital Coffeemaker with Conical Burr Grinder and Thermal CarafeI usually buy through Amazon, but ordered from another site because I didn't want to wait another 3 weeks Amazon Time to get my hands on this coffee maker.I've had it for a little over a week now, it replaces a 7 year old Capresso CoffeeTeam, and I love the new design. The most noticeable design change is the narrow profilewith direct feed grinding, thankfully doing away with the notoriously cantankerous swing-arm.I'm also glad to upgrade to the thermal carafe this time around, I don't always get around to drinking my coffee when I intend to, so it's nice not to have the coffee burning on the warmer. This is the best grind-and-brew system around, but there are still some tweaks Capresso could make to bring this to perfection.

1.) The thermal carafe is designed in a way that makes it impossible to get every last drop of coffee out, you'll always end out with 2-3 tablespoons of sad wasted coffee in the bottom. (I guess you could use a straw if you were desperate!)This design also makes it hard to clean. Unless you towel dry the inside, you'll end out with water in the bottom of the carafe, waiting to dilute your next cup.
2.) The brewing process creates a lot of steam! The coffee maker fits nicely under my cabinets, but the bottoms of my cabinets are dripping with water after brewing.I usually put a cotton towel over the steam hatch to save my poor cupboards.
3.) Between the steamy brewing and the lost coffee trapped in the carafe, plan on 1/2 cup of water "disappearing."If I want 12 ounces of coffee to fill my travel mug, I need to pour 16 ounces of water into the reservoir.
4.) The display is too bright!I've come into the kitchen a few times at night thinking I'd left a light on...they need to dim that down.

All in all, I'm a happy camper. The grinder sensor on my old Capresso failed after 2 years, so I couldn't set the timer for magic AM coffee.I love having my magic coffee fairy back again!

Product Description:
Equipped with a built-in conical burr grinder, this coffeemaker automatically grinds and brews up to 10 cups of exceptionally flavorful coffee. The unit's slow burr grinding produces minimal heat, which helps preserve coffee's full aroma and flavor, while its solid-steel conical burrs offer five grind settings from coarse to fine for adjusting the coffee strength. A user-friendly push-button control panel with an easy-to-read illuminated LCD display ensures simple operation and programming. Choose from five brew amounts (2 to 10 cups) and select the coffee strength: mild, medium, or strong--or set the clock and timer for automatic brewing at a later time. The coffeemaker provides two modes of operation for brewing coffee with or without the grinder. Grind/Brew mode grinds a programmed amount of whole beans directly into the gold-tone filter, then automatically starts the brewing process. Brew mode allows for adding ground coffee without the use of the grinder--simply push the filter-release button to open the swing-out filter holder. Freshly brewed coffee dispenses into the included 10-cup stainless-steel thermal carafe, which comes with a stay-cool handle and non-drip spout. For sneaking a quick cup midbrew, just remove the carafe from the machine to pause the flow of coffee, then return it to continue brewing. Other highlights include a 200 degree F brew temperature, a 6-ounce capacity bean container, a see-through window for checking to make sure ground coffee flows smoothly into the filter holder, a detachable see-through cover for cleaning the grinder channel, a charcoal water filter that removes up to 82-percent of chlorine and other impurities from tap water, and two-hour automatic shut-off for safety and peace of mind. The 1000-watt fully programmable 10-cup coffeemaker measures approximately 9-4/5 by 9-1/2 by 15-1/2 inches.

Cuisinart DGB-650BC Grind-and-Brew Thermal 10-Cup Automatic Coffeemaker, Brushed Metal Review

Cuisinart DGB-650BC Grind-and-Brew Thermal 10-Cup Automatic Coffeemaker, Brushed MetalI love the new look!We had the older version for about 6 years. This new one is sleeker and much easier to clean and keep clean (the inside where the grinder sits gets cakey due to condensation).I got it for $149, used Amazon Prime, and had it in a few days!I love it.If you're thinking of getting this grind and brew with stainless carafe, it is nice. Some parts will have to be replaced over the years like the older version, but the taste of the freshly ground coffee every day is worth it. I never pre-heat the carafe like the directions say because that defeats the purpose of the timer. I've never had an issue with the coffee temperature, it's always hot! I also recommend hand-washing over dishwasher. The carbon filters are similar to Brita and can be found for cheap at Kohl's. One other note is it only makes 10 cups as opposed to the typical 12 cups. This is fine for me because it's just me and my husband, but if you need to make a ton of coffee regularly, this may not be a good choice.Overall, I love it and I'm glad I traded up!
